| Nice Wines |
| At the interesting Celtic Whiskey shop tasting yesterday picked out some wines I liked very much and you might too.
The La Multa Old Vine wines, particularly the Tempranillo, the Garnacha and the Syrah were fantastic value at around a tenner. Lovely easy drinking and a change from the usual suspects. I also liked the Itsa Mendi 2007, 16.99 from the Basque country and the distinctive Castillo de Ulver Crianza 2005, 18.99 from Bierzo.

| Thoughts on Value for Money |
| The naked tables are too close to each other for comfort, the waiter has to indulge in vertical limbo dancing to get around without jostling the food off peoples' plates and the furniture itself is utilitarian. Not that I've anything against spartan dining except...

| The only table we could have was was for 6.30. We hit Ranelagh at 6.15 and because trudging up-and-down in the prevailing deluge held no charm for us we went straight to the restaurant. The front door was locked. Through the rain coursing down the window we glimpsed the man himself. He appeared to be dancing, or, at least, bouncing up on the balls of his feet waving his arms about. | Of Beluga and a Birthday |
| Okay, so nobody could come to lunch. Miserable lot. Why let work get in the way of a good feed, I say?
For the record I sliced some 'pain rustique', toasted it, spread it with the Belguga and, for good measure, popped a briefly caramelised scallop on the top of each slice. Ate all four slices myself - yum!
And of course you could only drink vodka with it, couldn't you?

| My mate LJR (not unknown to our forums) rings up and says "Ever done any butchering?"
"Well," sez I, "I've carved up the odd lamb and a couple of half pigs."
"That'll do," says the man. "Fancy having a hack at a deer?"
Apparently L has a mate who is a forester and shootist and, during a necessary cull, has pinged a small sika deer which he was willing to barter for a few botts.
Deal done, I grabbed my butchering kit and headed over to L's house at Harold's X.
